We WON!

Our country's founders cherished liberty, not democracy. – US House Congressional Resolution 48 "A Republic; not a Democracy", sponsored by Ron Paul, 3/6/01.

The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted. – James Madison (1751-1836)

By the end of the election season, the best any of us could hope for was gridlock. and That's what I voted for.

If the vote is our only weapon, then it must be thusly leveraged. We are often forced into bad decisions to illustrate badness to a new generation of voters. And a new generation of congressmen is not a bad result per se'. It's just that a wrong turn, whether it's right or left, still leaves us short of our goal.

The press is quick to claim that the war in Iraq had something to do with the results of the election. That is simply wrong. As I've repeated here many times, the war has been over for 2 years. So a lot of people still don't know what this was about.

What it was about is this: The republicans were acting like democrats by squandering the country's resources without good cause. In the process, they were creating the biggest and most intrusive government since the Great Society. No wonder people were confused enough to vote for democrats.

The quotation from Ron Paul would carry more weight if it didn't come from the mouth of a Republican trying to justify not counting the votes in 2000.

Other than that, it's an arguable point with some merit.

I find it interesting that there are no allegations of election fraud this time. You wouldn't figure those evil republicans would have stopped trying to rig the elections, would you, especially when it was this close. Maybe they knew you were watching this time...? Or maybe there was no further need for revisionist efforts now that the results are to your liking?

Well, there's election fraud and then there's election fraud.

The purging of voter rolls by outfits like ChoicePoint has been exposed, and both voters and election workers have been educated about that particularly vicious trick, minimizing its effectiveness.

Similarly, partisan phone-jamming and robo-calls have been brought to public awareness, along with whisper campaigns and race-baiting.

The hackable Diebold is another matter, and one which was much more suspicious when the CEO of Diebold vowed to deliver Ohio to GWB in 2004 and did. There are no coincidences in politics, however, and that investigation must continue.
